Convicted killer charges witness
PA Auckland Charges brought under a private prosecution by a convicted murderer, Brian Ronald McDonald, were laid yesterday against one of the witnesses at his trial. The witness, Gary Keith O’Connor, made a voluntary appearance before Judge Wallace in the District Court at Auckland. He faces three charges that between July 1, 1979, and May 6, 1980, he consipired with Bruce Graham Speck to defeat the course of justice; that he gave evidence in the District
Court with intent to wilfully obstruct, prevent and pervert the course of justice; and that between April 21 and May 6, 1980, he gave false evidence at the hearing of a murder trial at the High Court of New Zealand, knowing his evidence to be false and intended by him to mislead the Court. O’Connor was remanded to bail until June 5. McDonald was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1980 for the shooting of Miss Margaret Bell outside the Mainstreet Cabaret in July, 1979£
