Grandstand burden drops on ratepayers
PA Auckland The Mount Smart grandstand burden has dropped on the shoulders of Auckland's ratepayers as a $6.4 million levy. The decision to levy ratepayers came after months of investigation of the several finance options for the grandstand and related facilities. It was a turnaround on years of promises by previous authorities that they would fund it without recourse to the levy. The decision will add 15.6 per cent to last year’s A.R.A. levy, taking it from $40,879,618 to $47,260,879. The loading of the A.R.A. levy with the Mount Smart cost will add about 6 per cent to the average rate account.
