Important additions to Nevele R. Stud

The arrival last week of two splendidly-performed American horses in Bo Scots Blue Chip and Nero’s 8.8. has brought to six, with the possibility of a seventh, the number of stallions to be available at Nevele R. Stud, Prebbleton, in 1984-85. Besta Fella, which has been in Australia for two seasons, has returned to Prebbleton and will stand alongside El Patron, Nat Lobell, and Sholty Imp. It is also possible that Boyden Hanover will be available to breeders in the spring. Boyden Hanover recently underwent an operation to cure his fertility problems. High hopes are held that this will prove successful, although the results will not be known definitely for about two months.

Bo Scots Blue Chip, a Imin 53.6 s three-year-old, won $352,156 in stakes. He is the fastest winning stallion

to leave North America and he is the third fastest son of his sire, Most Happy Fella, his time having been bettered by Armbro Aussie, with Imin 51.85, and Cam Fella, with Imin 53.2 s and more than $2 million in stake-earnings. His best win at three, when he won $290,000, was by nine lengths over Cam Fella in the $221,350 Monticello Classic.

Bo Scots Blue Chip is the first foal of Kay Barmin, a Imin 59.6 s winner, by Meadow Paige from Harry’s Carol, the dam of six winners, including Sign Here, a Imin 58.2 s two-year-old with winnings of $265,000. He is closely related to top classic performers such as Harry’s Laura, Bit o’Sugar, Carafe and Sugar Dust. Nero’s 8.8. is a son of Nero, one of the most sought after stallions in

North America where he commands a fee of $30,000. He was a grand circuit performer at two and three years and was considered a top free-for-aller at five in 1983. He took a record of Imin 55.4 s and won $460,000 in stakes. One of his best efforts at two was a third to Land Grant in the rich Woodrow Wilson. At one stage of his career he paced 21 successive 2min miles, with 11 in Imin 56s or better. He finished a good second to It’s Fritz, which recorded Imin 52.45. Nero’s 8.8. is out of Bret’s Beauty, by Bret Hanover. His dam has left seven foals, with four in 2min. His second dam, Timely Beauty, took a record of Imin 57.2 s at two. A daughter of Good Time, she won 20 races at $115,000. She has left eight winners from 10 foals, including the successful sire, Cicero.
