Rye leading prospect at Woodville today

Special correspondent Wellington The Awapuni trainer, Margaret Bull, is in the midst of a most successful spin and her luck could continue when Rye today tackles the Oxford Handicap, the first leg of the Woodville T.A.B. double. With the meeting a restricted programme, the field is not high on quality and it is small in number as well. Rye was ' one of 10 originals at acceptance time and the Zamazaan mare comes to Woodville with a fine form background. She last raced at the Trentham Easter meeting beating all but Hazearay. Before, she won a highweight at Waverley and had a couple of seconds and win at Otaki last month. Star Lear, from Woodville, may also prove one of the hardest to beat. The Roi Lear gelding has been a model of consistency. His last two efforts have been sound ones, a fourth at Hastings followed by a second at Feilding some 10 days ago. In an even list, Runneth looks to be the leading light in the second leg, the Sowry Handicap, which is also the T.A.B. trifecta race. Trained on the track by Bruce Marsh, Runneth has won his last two, a maiden at bastings and then a class 3 at Feilding. Indeed may be his toughest rival. The gelding made ground for fifth at Feilding and then beat only two home at Woodville on Saturday. He is capble of better. The Gold Trail stakes winner of last season, Thosada Rose, looks on the verge of worthwhile form, while Nuclear Dream is a form runner which won on Easter Saturday at Feilding. The most interesting runner looks to be the War Hawk three-year-old Exocet, which has not raced since finishing well back in the New Zealand Derby.
