Slow golf to be penalised

Slow play is a hardy annual for golf administrators from club to national level. The subject was discussed again at a meeting of the Canterbury Golf Association’s management committee on Monday evening and some positive steps have been taken to punish offenders.

Entry forms for events organised by the Canterbury association will state that the rules relating to slow play will be enforced and penalties imposed.

Clubs will be notified that players in inter-club competitions might also be penalised for undue delays. Last year’s Canterbury selection panel of Messrs Alan Crawford-Smith (convener), Neville Griffiths and

Bob Manley were reappointed as was the association’s tournament director, Mr Jim Gregg. Canterbury will nominate its present councillor, Mr George Walker, for the New Zealand Golf Association’s council at that body’s annual meeting later this month. The Canterbury delegate will be Mr Terry Downey, who was elected chairman of the Canterbury association’s management committee at the meeting. The vice-chairman is Mr Alan Barley.

The executive committee elected was: Messrs S. Murray, D. N. Cresswell, G. P. Walker, J. T. Gregg, A. V. Barley, T. G. Downer, R. F. Gilbert, A. J. CrawfordSmith and A. J. Chambers.
