$35,000 for water-colour
PA Auckland A water-colour of Milford Sound painted by the New Zealand artist, J. B. C. Hoyt, in the 1870 s, fetched $35,000 at an auction in Auckland on Friday. Other paintings sold were a water-colour of a Maori pa by John Gilfillan (1847) for $24,000; an oil, “Almond Blossoms Grasse,” by Sydney Thompson, for $15,500; and an oil of the Waimea estuary. Nelson, by Charles Worsley (about 1912) for ,$25,000.
