Hockey team picked

Two former New Zealand players and three New Zealand juniors have been chosen in the New Zealand universities hockey team to tour Australia this month.

Greg Pierce, from Christchurch, will captain the team, which is dominated by Canterbury players. Nine of the 15 players are from Canterbury University. Pierce was a member of

the New Zealand team at Melbourne in December 1982 and at a five nation tournament in Kuala Lumpur last year.

The other New Zealand representative is the goalkeeper, John Meluish, from Wellington, who played for New Zealand at the Champions Trophy tournament in Pakistan last November. Noel Parkin (Auckland),

Peter Tynan, Mark Tynan and Matt Slark (all Canterbury), are former New Zealand junior representatives. The team leaves for Australia on Saturday. It will E games in Tasmania, journe and Canberra before travelling to Woolongong for the Australian Universities tournament from May 14 to 18. The tour will finish in Sydney on May 20. The team is:
