New managers

Simpson’s Sewing Centre, at 624 Colombo Street, is under new management. It was taken over early last month by Jenny and Malcolm Smart, which means the husband-and-wife style of involvement continues. The new owners still have the “excellent assistance,” of Mrs Pattie, who has been with the firm for about four years. Simpson’s — the old name will stay — is an agent for Brother sewing, overlocking, knitting and linking machines, for which there is tuition as well as after-sales service. The classes in sewing and machine knitting will continue, as will the demonstrations. For those who have bought their machines from

Simpson’s, the classes are free. “One of our major aims is to ensure that every customer leaves the shop happy with their purchase," says Malcolm. “We would like people to return to us, and we hope they’ll tell their friends.” Both Jenny and Malcolm have had extensive courses on the Brother machines with Brother Distributors, Ltd, so they are already reasonably conversant with Brother products. Besides Brother machines, Simpson’s has extensive stocks of yams and haberdashery, and a large range of patterns for both hand-knits and machine knitting. There is also a wide variety of materials and accessories for various needlecrafts and handcrafts.
