Mighty Louis may regain winning form today

Special correspondent Auckland The short let-up he has had from racing could well bring Mighty Louis back to winning form in the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie today. Trying to complete a hattrick of wins, Mighty Louis failed to hold Goodies and Lord Tempio last time, over 2200 m at Avondale on April 11, but not by much. He was impressive winning twice previously, over 2200 m at Avondale and 1600 m at Ellerslie. He has looked one of the more promising three-year-olds of the autumn. Mighty Louis has several useful opponents to beat in the Somerville Handicap, a C2 2100 m event, notably Betro, Silver Flier and Even Prince. Even Prince and Barovani have the pace to force a good gallop, so has Wyndham. All the indications are that the 2100 m will be run pretty hard. Bay En Deux needs only to be at her best again to win or go close in the second leg, the Glen Orchard Handicap. She must have been off colour when badly beaten last time, even allowing her trying 2000 m for the first time. Her form had been consistent. If Bay En Deux is beaten the winner might be High Regards or Ruvain, each a last-start winner.
