Comalco quarter Comalco, Ltd lifted bauxite shipments 34 per cent and primary aluminium production 31.9 per cent in the latest March quarter over the same quarter in 1983. The company says bauxite production at Weipa, in Queensland, was 2.07 million tonnes in the latest three months, and shipments rose to 1.74 million tonnes. Comalco says the increases reflect higher stockpile levels and greater demand from Queensland Alumina Ltd. Primary aluminium production from the company’s Bell Bay smelter in Tasmania and its share of production from the smelters at Tiwai Point, New Zealand, and Boyne Island, Queensland, rose to 74,819 tonnes from 56,725 tonnes.
