Policeman left plea—woman
PA Auckland A top-level inquiry is under way after a claim that a policeman left a young woman to fend off a sex offender by herself. Auckland’s police chief, Assistant Commissioner K. G. Sykes, has ordered a full investigation into the allegation, made by a young Mount Eden woman. Robyn McKenzie, aged 17, claimed that a lone policeman in a patrol car drove round her as she stood in the middle of the road trying to attract his. attention. His actions shocked her and prompted complaints to
the police, Auckland’s Mayor, Mrs Catherine Tizard, local members of Parliament, the Minister of Police Mr Couch, and the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon. Miss McKenzie told the “Auckland Star” that she was waiting for a bus near the intersection of Karangahape Road and Symonds Street about 11.20 p.m. on Monday after a theatre rehearsal. A man drove up beside her and began abusing her and making indecent suggestions. He tried to entice her into the car to take part in sexual acts.
