James Hardie 1000
Australia’s world renowned touring car race, the James Hardie 1000 which will be run at Bathurst,- New South Wales, later this year, will be conducted under international Group A regulations for the first time. Group A cars are much closer to standard than were those in the 1983 Australian Touring car class. This means that the sun has
set on the Bathurst “specials,” at least for the time being. Bathurst is run under the auspices of the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club and, according to a spokesman, a top European Group A team is considering entering the race this year. Jaguar, Rover and BMW dominate Group A racing in Europe.
