Suttle Knight dashing worker at Riccarton
The Woodville-trained stayer, Suttle Knight, came up with one of the most attractive solo gallops of the training on the plough at Riccarton yesterday. A runner for John Harris’s stable in the Qantas Stakes tomorrow, Suttle Knight got through 1400 m in Imin 30.4 s after cutting out the opening 800 m strongly in 49.45. Aqua Flight later equalled Suttle Knight’s time for the 1400 m after running the opening 800 m in 50.85.
The Wingatui stablemates, Noble Jewel and Noble Boa, completed their 1400 m on terms in Imin 31s, the last 600 m in 395. Pokare brought fresh interest to bear on tomorrow’s Great Western Champagne Stakes when he beat Foam from the 600 m by three lengths in an impressive 365. Pokare acted as if he improved with his race on the first day of the meeting. Black Arrow, another form runner for Riccarton
in the Champagne Stakes, returned 39.4 s for his 600 m. Secured Money, the firstday two-year-old winner, wound up for the Champagne Stakes by running 600 m in 39s with Virtuoso for a companion. The Paddy Busuttin pair, Rapanella and Shazaam, ran the last 600 m of their work on terms in 40s. Hint showed plenty of enthusiasm for her work while sprinting 800 m in 50.85, the final 600 m in 37.25. She appears to have thrived.
