Wealth man draws benefit
NZPA-AP London A wealthy British racehorse owner, Stan Riley, is drawing State unemployment benefit of £27 (SNZSB) a week, the “Sun" newspaper reports. “I have worked hard all my life and paid my contributions. I am only’ getting what I am entitled to,” he said.
Mr Riley now spends all his time at the racetracks after being a successful farmer and restaurant owner.
Mr Riley’s horse, Burrough Hill Lad, recently won the £43,375 Cheltenham Gold Cup steeplechase classic. The Queen Mother presented him with the coveted trophy.
He said the horse’s success had enabled him to give up work permanently. mr Riley, a divorced father of three, has won more than £90,000 on the 'turf this season.
