Director charged

NZPA-Reuter Los Angeles The film director, John Landis, and two colleagues have been ordered to stand trial for the involuntary manslaughter of the actor. Vic Morrow, and two children while shooting a war scene for the film, “Twilight Zone.” Mr Morrow, who was 53, and the children Renee Chen, aged 6, and Myca Dinh Lee, aged 7, were killed when a helicopter crashed on them during the shooting of a Vietnam war scene in July, 1982. Mr Morrow was running with a child under each arm across a river bed on the outskirts of Los Angeles while fireballs exploded around them and the helicopter hovered overhead. The prosecution alleged during the preliminary hearing that debris hurled into the air by a specialeffects explosion had struck the helicopter, flown by Dorcey Wingo, causing the crash.

Muncipal Judge Brian Crahan said of the three accused: “Each one . . . created an unreasonable exposure of harm to those killed in the crash.”

He dismissed involuntary manslaughter charges against two other members of the film crew.
