World swim marks set

Mike Bottom and Sandy Neilson, medallists at the 1976 and 1972 Olympics respectively, both set new world records at the first international masters swimming championships at Queen Elizabeth II Park last evening. Miss Neilson recorded 26.77 s in the women’s 50m freestyle, 25 to 29 years, which reduced by 0.61 s the old record. It was a world-class time even in todays’ open rankings. Bottom also returned a world-class time in the men’s 25 to 29 years 100 m butterfly of 56.345. That was 0.50 s better than the masters record.
