Patient fell to death off bridge
PA Auckland An Oakley Hospital patient fell to his death from Grafton Bridge in full view of several passers-by on Sunday. He was lan Garth McDonald, aged 36. Witnesses told the police that they had no time to go to Mr McDonald’s aid before he fell, landing on rough ground by the Southern Motorway's Wellesley Street off-ramp. Mr McDonald was a committed patient, diagnosed as schizophrenic. A hospital spokesman said Mr McDonald had been in an open ward and frequently went walking.
