Successful N.I. combination
By
J. J. BOYLE
The Gary Phillips (left) and Paddy Busuttin trainerjockey combination prospered on the opening day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Easter meeting at Riccarton yesterday. The combination accounted for four wins, one
second, one third and one fourth. Their winners were Rapanella in the Warstep Stakes, Kaierau Prince (Wigram Maiden), Rega Lee (Barry Corbett), and Lady Gemma (Prebbleton Handicap). Their two-year-old hopeful, Pounding, was a nose from victory in the
Diners Club International. Phillips also rode four winners at Feilding on Saturday, a feat that earned him a cash prize of $lOOO. At the end of Saturday’s racing he was level with Jim Cassidy at the top of the jockeys’ table, and after yesterday’s racing was holding a handy lead.
