Belfast car-bomb A car-bomb explosion in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, killed one civilian and wounded three soldiers yesterday. The explosion occurred in a car-park near the city centre.—Belfast.

Truck kills 12 A speeding truck has hurtled into a religious Easter procession in northern Nicaragua, killing 12 people and seriously injuring five others, the Voice of Nicaragua radio station said. Authorities were searching for the truck, which did not stop after tearing through a Catholic “holy burial” procession.—Managua. Mondale wins Walter Mondale won a majority of local delegates chosen in Thursday’s Missouri Presidential caucuses, according to final figures. Mr Mondale won 560 local delegates, Senator Gary Hart, 190, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, 176, and 36 were uncommitted.—Jefferson City. Tornado deaths Tornados pummelled Mississippi yesterday, killing 10 people in storms that destroyed homes and businesses, while an unusually strong spring snowstorm dumped up to a metre of snow in the central Rockies and western plains. At least 14 people have died nation wide in two days of rain, snow, high winds, and flooding.—New York. Ligron gives birth Julie the ligron, a cross between a lion and a tigress, has created a world first and defied scientists by giving birth to a live cub at a zoo outside Paris. Scientists had said that all such hybrid creatures were sterile. Julie is one of four ligrons, two males and two females, bred at the Toiry zoo, owned by Viscount Panouse. He gave one pair to the Peking zoo in 1981. The sex of the cub was not yet known.—Versailles.
