Gang convention quiet
A convention of motorcycle gangs at Timaru seems to be ending on a quiet note, with the police there reporting no trouble since Friday.
Members of some northern gangs left Timaru yesterday afternoon, said a police spokesman. About 80 motor-cyclists from Dunedin to New Plymouth had gathered in the city for the convention. On Friday, police in riot gear raided a gang headquarters after a police vehicle was allegedly bombarded with stones.
Five persons appeared in the District Court at Timaru on Saturday on charges ranging from an alleged assault to the possession of alcohol, drugs, and firearms. They were released on bail.
