Cruise line share for sale
The owners of the Norwegian-based Royal Viking Line plan to sell one-third of the company. The two Norwegian companies which own 50 per cent of the cruise company have asked a London brokerage firm to draw up a prospectus and contact potential investors.
The companies believe that the cruise sector has become too large. It has run at a loss recently with a deficit of ?USIS million last year. The loss has been attributed to a drop in patronage by the American cruise market. Recent trends, however, have shown an improvement in the market.
To improve economy and increase its impact on the highly competitive cruise market, the company has lengthened its three vessels, the Royal Viking Star, Royal Viking Sky, and Royal Viking Sea.
The three cruise vessels have all called at the Port of Lyttelton. The Royal Viking Sky has visited the port three times, the last visit in February, 1973. The Royal Viking Sea and the Royal viking Star called at the port several times during 1974.
