N.Z.-New South Wales draw
NZPA-AAP Melbourne The New Zealand Olympic team drew 1-1 with the strong New South Wales side in the invitation Easter men’s hockey tournament at the State Hockey Centre at Royal Park, Melbourne, on Saturday. Clever play by the right wing, Peter Daji, almost gave New Zealand a goal early in the first half, but the veteran New South Wales goal-keeper, Bob Proctor, made an excellent save. New Zealand went to the lead 15 minutes into the
second half when Grant Miskinnon made no mistake with his shot in a penalty corner after the obstruction of the captain, Arthur Parkin, in the circle. However, the tourists’ lead was short lived as five minutes later an infringement in the goal mouth gave a penalty stroke to the New South Wales captain, Rowan Dick, who put it in the net. In other matches, South Australia thrashed Australian Capital Territory, 5-1, and Victoria beat South Australia 4-3.
