Dixon pulls out of 3000m
PA Hastings The scheduled 1 mile and 3000 m clashes between John Walker and Rod Dixon at the Highland Games at Hastings during the week-end, failed to take place. Walker withdrew from the mile on Saturday to concentrate on the 3000 m on Sunday, allowing Dixon to amble home in 4min 23.8 sec.
Dixon was suffering from a cold after his effort on Saturday in wintery conditions. He pulled out of the 3000 m, leaving Walker to win in a comfortable Bmin 22.75ec, a time which satisfied Walker, considering the soft, rain-affected track.
In both events Neil Madgwick of Otahuhu was second.
The Countrywide inter-club athletic competition was won by Hastings, with 191 pts, Tauranga with 154 was second, and Otahuhu, third, 129. The national league seven-a-side competition was won by Flaxmwere Falcons with Omahii lluiac cornnd
