Radio play by Chch author
“Furlough of ’43" (National programme. 8.45 p.m. Wednesday) is a play by the Christchurch author. William Young.
In the years of World War 11. three mates are back home on furlough after three years fighting in North 'Africa. Soon the troops on leave start to question the reasons for their returning to the war. Civilians, especially those with what appears to be cushy jobs, annoy the soldiers with their snide
comments and selfish attitudes. and wives are not happy about being left alone again.
The soldiers return to camp where a meeting is held to discuss the question of staying in New Zealand, and there are many forceful arguments both for and against.
The play was produced by Ross Jolly, and the main roles are played by Simon O’Connor, Brian Sergent. Gilbert Goldie, Prue Langbein and Cliff Wood.
