Rewards for rape details
PA Auckland A Parnell man has offered a $lOOO reward for information leading to the conviction of men responsible for two rapes. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that he hoped other people would offer similar rewards “in an attempt to sweep this dirt off our streets. ‘lt is not unreasonable to, imagine that if 10 other' citizens did likewise the incidence of rape might show a sharp decline,” he said. He has offered the reward for information about the rape of a schoolgirl at Avondale on September 14 and the abduction and rape of a woman, aged 19, at North Shore on April 5. The reward will stand for three months. The head of the Auckland police district, Assistant Commissioner, Mr K. G. Sykes, described the reward as most generous. The reward has still to be cleared at Police National Headquarters in Welington.
