Burglars interrupted
A central Christchurch resident arrived home on Wednesday evening to find burglars ransacking his house. A car that he did not recognise was parked in his driveway and all the lights were on in his Gloucester Street house. The man thought quickly and parked his car across the entrance to the driveway, blocking the escape route for the burglars’ vehicle, said Detective Senior-Sergeant R. G. Carson. Then he went to a neighbour’s house and telephoned the police. The police, including a dog handler, arrived soon after but the burglars had fled. However, the man’s quick thinking prevented his property being taken, said De-
tective Senior-Sergeant Carson. Some of the property was piled on the porch and also in the car, which was later
discovered to have been stolen from a nearby address. Detectives are continuing investigations into the incident.
