Veteran games
The second Oceanic Veteran Games opened yesterday in Canberra with over 720 competitions. Conditions were very wet and cold at the Bruce Stadium. Canterbury competitors to perform well were:— 10,000 metres: M5O Ray McLean 2nd, 35min 375, M 55 lan Brownie 2nd, 37min 17s, M 55 Selwyn Opie 3rd. 37min 21s, M6O Jack McGuigan 3rd. 41min 03s. Discus: M 55 Jack King 3rd. 31.20 m. Javelin: W55 Shirley Peterson 2nd, 18.40.
