The candidate should be an economist with post graduate training In macroeconomics and monetary policy and preferably with a PhD and a proven Interest in development of underdeveloped countries. Field experience In developing countries and publlcataions relating to monetary aspects of development are highly desirable. The appointee will primarily promote teaching of money, banking and finance and work on such subjects as impact of various proposals for International monetary reform on small Island nations; special problems of monetary policy in such countries; balance of payments and development, problems and potential of economic Integration, etc. The appointee may also be asked to teach micro and macroeconomics. In addition the University provides gratuity amounting to 15 per cent of basic salary, appointment allowance and, subject to the University’s current housing policy, partly furnished accommodation at a rental of 12 W per cent of salary. The University will pay an allowance in lieu of superannuation of 10 per cent of standard salary. In some cases this allowance may be paid direct to the appointee’s existing superannuation scheme subject to a decision on acceptability of the scheme by the Commission of Inland Revenue. The successful applicant should have a good command of both spoken and written Maori The duties will Include teaching In, and activities related to, the Certificate In Maori Studies, participation In tutorial groups, and supervision of the Maori tape collection in the Language Laboratory.
