Thank-you cruise by Tui

H.M.N.Z.S. Tui, an oceanographic research vessel, recently made her first visit to the dry dock at Lyttelton where essential maintenance costing about $170,000 was completed. As a gesture of thanks for “a very successful job,” staff of the Lyttelton-based firm, Sinclair Melbourne, Ltd, and its sub-contracting staff were taken on a four-hour cruise aboard the Tui before she sailed for Devonport. DAVID ALEXANDER, of “The Press” photographic staff, also went on the cruise, and took the pictures on this page.

MIDDLE LEFT: Able Seaman Evan Tates, of Christchurch, tows a line to the lifebuoy which represented the man to be rescued. MIDDLE RIGHT: Junior Cadet Sean Patterson, aged 14, of T.S. Cornwell, holds a mooring line. BOTTOM RIGHT: The commander, Lieutenant Commander Derek Swann, of Auckland, on the bridge.
