Improved sales in all but its rural division pushed the interim profit of Allied Mills oi Sydney up more than 16 per cent to JAustll.o9 million in the six months to the end oi February. The diversified national food group’s brand names include Meadow Lea, Eta, Buttercup, Siebers, Crisco, Ole, Mothers Choice, Betty Sydney, Country Fair and John Bull. Group sales rose 27 per cent to J318.53M with a 22.5 per cent rise in operating profit before tax to J20.15M. Burns P. post Mr Laisenia Qarase, the managing director of the Fijian Development Bank, has been appointed a director of Burns Philp (South Sea) Company, Ltd. Mr Gerald Barrack has resigned from Burns Philp (South Sea) after being appointed independent chairman of the Fiji Sugar Company.
