W.D.U. vies for United lead

Christchurch Brother United took a rest from its Air New Zealand Cup programme at the week-end, yet it still leads Group B of the national soccer competition. Its closest rival for group honours and a place in the final on April 29 looks like being Wellington Diamond United, which comfortably beat National Mutual Miramar, 3-0, yesterday. United meets W.D.U. in Wellington next Monday. In the other game in Group B, McKee Nelson United edged out Napier City Rovers, 1-0, at Napier. Papatoetoe holds a onepoint advantage in Group A after its 2-1 win over University Cowan. Alex Metzger and Chris Turner, with a penalty, scored for Papatoetoe, with ' Paul Rosser contributing University’s goal.

Gisborne City is second, after its 1-1 draw with Mount Wellington. Kevin Meecock gave Gisborne a half-time lead, but Keith Nelson equalised for the Auckland club, giving it four draws from its four games to date. On Saturday evening, Manurewa scored half a minute into injury time to share the points with Hani-mex-North Shore, 2-2. Peter Moxham scored the vital second goal, after Paul Marshall had scored the first. Martin Jennison and Keith Hobbs, with a penalty, scored for North Shore.
