Budget service busy
The demand for budgeting advice in Christchurch has increased so much during the last year that the Christchurch Household Budget and Advisory Service can no longer meet it.
Mr J. F. .Maguire, the secretary of the service, said that although it had 126 volunteers the demand meant that more were needed.
The service was low key, providing people with regular advice on debt repayment and money management.
Experience in the area of finance was not a prerequisite for becoming a volunteer adviser, said Mr Maguire. Volunteers needed patience and the desire to help people who were not as
capable in managing their financial affairs. All volunteers did a short training course before being assigned a family to assist, said Mr Maguire. The service also had a regular back-up system for volunteers.
Anybody interested in becoming a budget adviser should telephone Christchurch 63-422.
