A Hornby dairy proprietor has decided to do something about a shortage of public toilets in his district. Mr Brian Brown, who owns Brown’s Dairy on the Main South Road, says the only public toilets in Hornby are in the Hornby Mall, which is closed tn the weekend. He has decided to help out by having a portable lavatory installed outside the shop. "We are copping the backlash of people wanting to use the toilet and the phone,” he said. “After all, what is a woman with kiddies supposed to do?” A Rent-A-Lu was installed yesterday, and will cost Mr Brown between $5O and $lOO per week depending on the use it gets. A Paparua concillor who shares Mr Brown’s concern is sharing the cost. Mr Brown is not happy in his self-appointed role of providing comfort for those in need, however. “I think we are doing the council’s job. It’s■■ not my cup of tea at all,” he said. “I think the ratepayers of Hornby should have a loo.” He said the problem dated back eight or nine years since the closing of the public toilets outside, the Orange Hall. The matter would be raised at a Paparua Council meeting, he said. “I hope we get some action,” he said. “Hornby must be the only place' in the city that doesn’t have a loo.”
