Problems on funds?
PA Nelson Some city and borough councils might find difficulties funding projects to which they were already committed, the Municipal Association conference heard in Nelson. The Palmerston North Mayor, Mr Brian Elwood, said in the short-term the outlook for local bodies seeking to raise loan finance was “bleak.” It was resulting in the deferring of capital projects, he said. Unless members of the association presented the Prime Minister with evidence of deferrals, many of them would be in difficulties funding projects to which they were already committed. However, a representative of the Local Authorities Loan Board, Mr E. M. H. Kemp, said he had no evidence of high priority work being hampered through lack of finance.
