Badminton trials rides
The two New Zealand riders to have completed the dressage phase at the Badminton horse trials in England have managed reasonable positions to keep alive hopes that a national Olympic team could be formed after the trial. Andrew Nicholson, of Te Awamutu, riding Rubin, scored above average with 71.6 penalties and the
Hawke’s Bay rider, Andrew Scott, on Just Henry, followed closely with 72. A relatively unknown British rider, Lucy Bywater, on Mr President, held the lead with 57.8 penalties. Mary Hamilton (Hawke’s Bay) and her compatriot, Mark Todd, who won the event four years ago, have not yet ridden the dressage.
