More time for review wanted

Canterbury Education Board members want more time to study the core curriculum review. The board decided at yesterday’s monthly meeting to write to the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, asking for an extension of two months to August 1 to study the review. Mrs N. J. Johnson said that the last review was done in 1962. As it would be another 20 years before more changes would be made it was only reasonable that more time should be taken on the report.

“I received my copy only yesterday and have only six weeks to study the document, which is not enough,” she said. Mrs R. J. Cowell said that she believed the document was being discussed in the schools and that board members would have time to study it before June 1. Therefore, she said, it would be unreasonable to ask for extra time when the study could be completed in the time given. Miss M. Ockenden said that the limit on time was stifling possible discussion.
