Globe Tour out of Stakes

Ry

G. K. YULE

The scratching yesterday of the early favourite, Globe Tour, has enhanced the prospects of the Dunedin owned and trained filly, Beau’s Delight, in the $12,500 New Zealand Trotting Stakes at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway this evening. Globe Tour was withdrawn yesterday, suffering from a muscular problem, a most untimely setback for his connections. Beau’s Delight marred her display at Addington last month by running off at the straight entrance when looking a possible winner. However, she has improved with experience since then. She was an impressive last start winner, returning the national record time of

3min 13.14 s for the 2400 m. She has shown that she is well above average and a bold run at the Forbury Park trials earlier in the week confirmed the high opinion held of her. Since the Trotting Stakes was first run in 1943, no horse trained further south than Waimate has been successful. The late lan Herbert was training at Waimate when he produced Fairy Dell to win in 1951. Lord Alias beat Globe Tour two starts back, but fell from favour after he broke during the running of his race at Washdyke last week. The son of Alias Armbro, holder of the race record at 3min 26.85, is a splendid trotter and he should be one of the better chances. Not Now has had no luck in two appearances since he won twice earlier this

season. He is a dour stayer and went well enough at the Addington trials on Wednesday to be considered a great prospect of getting into the finish. Count Me In has won four races for his part-owner and trainer, Charlie Hunter, and northerners expect him to give a good account of himself. Along with Melvander, he appeals most of the remainder. Additional drives Additional driving engagements for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting this evening are:— Race I.—R. Brosnan: Chippie. Race 5.—G. Payne: Watbro Ford; R. Bellam; Loma Doone. Race 7.—R. Brosnan: Sure Court
