Listing invitations
Some of the world’s largest companies, including Ford, General Motors and Exxon, have been invited by the Melbourne Stock Exchange to consider listing their shares in Australia. The exchange has made the invitation either directly to more than 30 foreign companies or to their Australian subsidiaries. The campaign has received the support of the Sydney Stock Exchange chairman, Mr Jim Bain. The MSE chairman, Mr lan Roach, says opportunities now exist for listing because the Australian Reserve Bank abolished foreign exchange controls covering borrowing and capital raising in Australia by overseas residents when the dollar was floated last December.
