News media rejected
PA Wellington Representatives of people out of work do not want the news media in on their discussions. About 150 delegates at the national meeting of unemployed groups in Wellington have voted against opening their conference to the news media. Only six were in favour of a news media presence. Press statements will be issued at the end of each day’s meetings.
Delegates from Auckland presented an abbreviated form of an alternative economic strategy to the meeting. It called for a higher level of public ownership and control in the economy, full employment as a priority, a boost to the incomes of the low paid, an equitable tax system, the encouragement of industries that will foster self reliance and a more just international order.
