‘Created Woman’
“Created Woman,” presented by Anna Holmes and Bronwyn Jndge at the Southern Ballet Theatre, April 12 to 14. Running time 8 pan. to 9.30 pm. Reviewed by Heather Campbell. “Created Woman” is based on a Welsh folk tale of Blodeuwedd, a tragic figure in search of her identity and fulfilment as a woman. jt ’ Francesca Waters naisSh rafts this tale with a deli-
cacy and timing which add richness and dimension to the rhythmic patterns of Anthony Conran’s poems. With an all-white set, simplistic in design, an atmosphere is created to give a dramatic emphasis to the hauntingly beautiful , musical accompaniment of Hubert Kwisthout on Uillean (Irish) pipes. Anna Holmes and Bronwyn Judge are superb exponents of contemporary dance theatre. With a unity
in performance, they are powerful in their use of mime and facial expression, conveying mood and emotion as vividly as their skilfully articulated movements. Anna Holmes sustains an essentially restrained characterisation, reinforcing the dynamics of her performance. Contrastingly, Bronwyn Judge's performance ..showed at times a teafency to histrionics. -
