Two-year-olds in smart trial
Special correspondent Woodville The two-year-olds, Illa Marie and Sound Lady, turned in a smart trial yesterday morning at Woodville in preparation for the Hawke’s Bay meeting tomorrow. Working on the firm course proper, where the pegs were well out, they came from the 1000 m in Imin 3.85, the last 600 m in 36.95. Bia Marie got too far back at Waverley, but will appreciate the 1400 m on the bigger Hastings track in the Juvenile Handicap. Sound Lady has consistent form for the same race. Lucky Pal was travelling well, ahead of Jirob, over 1000 m, taking 51.6 s for the 800 m and 38.1 s for the final 600 m. Jirob is also in the Juvenile Handicap. She failed at Waipukurau, where she became unbalanced in the early and middle stages.
and also was not at ease in the ground. Lunar Money turned in a good gallop with a solid weight when she ran 800 m in 50.75, the last 600 m in 38s. She showed improvement at Wanganui and is in the Clive Handicap at Hastings. On the plough, Standoff and Self Supporting showed dash over 800 m in 47.85. Bridge Player cruised over the last 1000 m of his work in Imin 3.55, the last 600 m in 38.8. He is looking well. Gayzella finished ahead of Fidji after they ran 1000 m smartly in Imin 1.55, the last 600 m in 37.45. Fidji resumes in the final event at Hastings and could show up.
