Backbenchers chosen
PA Wellington Two Government backbenchers who will move and second the Address-in-Reply debate in Parliament this year were chosen because they were hurt by electoral boundary changes. They are Messrs R. L. Bell (Gisborne) who will move the debate, and Mr Dail Jones (Helensville), who will second it.
The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, was asked
yesterday whether they were chosen because their electorates were marginal. “Of course,” he said. “It doesn’t take a genius to recognise that. They both had adverse boundary changes and it is an opportunity for them to put their point of view in front of a wider audience than a backbencher normally gets. “That is one of the advantages of being in Government. You have that opportunity each year.”
