Press Gallery rents
Sir,—The Prime Minister’s indication that the Government might not have charged rentals for Parliamentary Press Gallery office space if the news organisations had been reporting properly is yet another example of his disregard for the fundamentals of democracy. Someone who has so imperfect an understanding of the precepts which sustain a free society should not hold the office of Prime Minister. Surely it is the duty of the press to say this loudly and clearly, without fudging the issue and repeatedly. The Prime Minister may not receive the message, but if it is given unequivocally and persistently perhaps his colleagues will prove less insensitive.—Yours, G. J. JUDD. Auckland, April 10, 1984.
