D.B. may seek exemption

Dominion Breweries, Ltd, which regained control of the Hillsborough Tavern last month, expects to seek an exemption on the tavern’s entertainment licence.

The Licensing Control Commission revoked the licence on March 14 on application by the Heathcote County Council. The oral decision was made a week before D.B. took control of the tavern, which had been the subject of noise complaints from residents.

The decision means that while music can still be played, dancing and “live” entertainment is not allowed. Bands were not considered “live” entertainment under the licence, said the commission’s secretary, Mr J. C. Flanagan, yesterday.
