Two drinks a day helps heart health —researcher
PA Palmerston North Two, three, or four drinks a day could help prevent heart disease, says a Massey University alcohol research team director, Professor Richard Batt. Alcohol raised the level of high density lipoproteins
which prevented fatty material accumulating in the arteries, he said.
“The result is protection against coronary heart disease — themajor cause of death in North America, Europe, and in New Zealand.”
Two drinks a day brought the optimum benefits. These findings, from Canadian researchers at the Addiction Research Foundation in Toronto, showed the beneficial effects of alcohol, he told the Licensing Trust’s Association conference at Wairakei.
