Dunedin move by F. Paykel

PA Dunedin The name H. E. Shacklock, Ltd, is to give way to that of Fisher and Paykel in Dunedin, but the Shacklock brand name will continue to be used. Fisher and Paykel last year announced an increased commitment to the Shacklock division in Dunedin, which is the sole source of the company’s range and dishwasher products. In addition to the Shacklock brand products, Frigidaire and Kelvinator ranges and dishwashers are also manufactured in Dunedin. It is part of a planned expansion both in product planning and production, which will require expansion of the division’s main plant on the Taieri plains. Fisher and Paykel’s man-aging-director, Mr Don Rowlands, said yesterday that the name change was another step in the gradual

merging with Shacklock interests. “Previous announcements have pointed towards an expansion in Dunedin, with the transfer of product development engineering as well as New Zealand-wide marketing and sales control,” Mr Rowlands said. Dunedin management had also assumed control of product design, and Mr Mark Elmore, a product design engineer with extensive overseas experience, would be on the Dunedin staff. Mr Rowlands said the Dunedin plant was manufacturing Kelvinator brand dishwashers for export to Australia, and a second brand for the Australian market will be added within the next few months. “In addition, sample machines are being currently evaluated in several export markets, including Saudi Arabia,” he said. The export model was the result of development carried out in Dunedin, and had a reduced cycle time and reduced cost, Mr Rowlands said.
