NZPA staff correspondent London The first shipment of new season New Zealand apples arrived in Antwerp yesterday and will go on sale in Europe next week, “They are in good condition and we are now cleared to distribute them,” said Mr Neil Guymer, the Apple and Pear Marketing Board’s general manager for Europe. Of the 160,000 cartons of Cox’s Orange making up the first shipment, 85,000 are for the United Kingdom and 75,000 for Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Bel-

gium. Mr Guymer said the board’s agents were expecting to get $30.50 a carton on the Continent and $2B in London as opening prices. The Apple and Pear Board expects to sell 4.3 million cartons of apples to Europe this year, an increase of 13 per cent on the 3.8 million sold in 1983. New Zealand sales will be given a boost by the Italian Government’s decision to let New Zealand apples in for the first time. New Zealand expects to sell king-sized Red Delicious apples to Italy.
