Q. Humphreys Anti-apartheid shareholders have called an extraordinary meeting of Quill Humphreys, Ltd, on April 27 to deal with business regarding any contract between the company and Stellenbosch Farmers Winery, Ltd, of South Africa. The meeting has been called under the Companies Act, 1955. The group of shareholders responsible are opposed to the company trading and distributing South African wines. The text of the special business to be considered is: “To examine any contract which currently exists between Quill Humphreys, Ltd, on the one hand and Stellenbosch Winery Farmers, Ltd, and, or, their agents, or representatives on the other.” Brierley stake Brierley Investments, Ltd, further increased its stake in Welgas Holdings, Ltd, from 48 per cent to 49.67 per cent after buying an undisclosed number of shares in the Wellingtonbased gas company. The sale was made last Friday at 750 c a share. Brierley announced on March 7 that it bought 3.4 per cent of Welgas’ capital at 720 c a share. Glaxo directors Mr Dirk Hudig, the chairman of Glaxo’ New Zealand, Ltd, says that Mr Howard Ede and Mr Laurie Lichtenhein have been appointed executive directors of the company. Mr Ede, aged 35, a chartered accountant, joined Glaxo in 1969 and, after working in the United Kingdom parent company for a period, returned to New Zealand as the company secretary. He has been recently the divisional manager of Glaxo’s newlyformed foods division.

Mr Lichtenhein, aged 53, is on secondment from the parent company for a three-year period as a technical and production director. He has been with Glaxo UK since 1956.

Tingeys lost The trade name, Tingeys, has been lost 115 years after two brothers, Richard and Edward Tingey, started the paint and wallpaper business in Wanganui. The company grew into a nationwide business, and was taken over by Odlins, Ltd, in 1972. Last Monday, the name Tingeys was changed to Odlins Decorating. Hallenstein board Hallenstein Bros, Ltd, the Dunedin-based clothing manufacturer and retailer, held its first board meeting in Auckland yesterday and only the second outside Dunedin in 110 years’ trading. The directors are in Auckland looking at sites for expansion and the chairman, Mr Ted Friedlander, says the company will continue to grow. Taranaki drilling Petrocorp (Exploration) says the Manganui-2 exploration well in Taranaki was spudded in last Tuesday, and is now at 412 m. Manganui-2 is 2km west of the McKee field. Petrocorp says seismic data gathering is proceeding on schedule in Taranaki, with completion of the Makara-Toe-toe area. The crew is now working in the Ararata area and so far 66km of data has been recorded. The production testing of the Pukemai-1 well is continuing. Trigon expansion Trigon Plastics, Ltd, the Hamilton manufacturer of plastic packaging, is increasing its production facilities. It plans to have a third production line working next month. This will increase its export of co-extruded film by 1200 tonnes a year. Two-thirds of this additional production is expected to be exported to Europe and the United States.
