Penalty on doctor

Sir,—Surely Dr Duncan, of Whangamata, who has been fined for professional misconduct by the Medical Association should be complimented on his concern for public safety/ instead of having a fine imposed upon him. Your news item of March 14 reported “the committee said professional confidence could be breached only in the most exceptional circumstances and then only if the public interest was paramount.” If the lives of 35 children are not paramount, or, as the Collins Dictionary quotes, “of the highest importance” then goodness knows what is.. My sympathies are with Mr Henry, the school bus driver, but at 60-plus he is already receiving national superannuation. No doubt there are unemployed persons in the Whangamata area only too happy to fill his position. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) DALLAS M. HOSKIN. March 14, 1984.
