Television news

Sir,—The amount of time given on television to the fortunes of Mr W. Mondale in the candidacy selection battle was a prime example of the way in which we are being moulded into a puppet state of the United States of America. One hears an increasing number of American accents, indicating an increasing over-all American involvement. The fate of thousands of drought victims in Upper Volta receives not a mention, other than the brief coverage of Princess Anne’s recent visit on behalf of the Save the Children Fund. No attempt is made to show maps and diagrams of the country and its problems, nor is anything done that may remind us of the need to help these folk where there is one doctor to 60,000 people. Mr Mondale’s fortunes are far more important. — Yours, etc., P. B. WYE. March 8, 1984.
